Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has executed a binding agreement to acquire a 100 percent equity stake in IntelliSmart Infrastructure Pvt Ltd in a transaction valued at Rs 3,050 crore. The acquisition positions AESL as India’s largest smart metering platform, expanding its cumulative portfolio to more than 4.7 crore meters. The transaction remains subject to standard regulatory and customary approvals.
IntelliSmart, a prominent joint venture between the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), ranks among the top three players in the domestic smart metering segment. The company currently manages a portfolio exceeding 2.2 crore smart meters across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Assam, providing AESL with a major footprint in high-growth consumer markets.
Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Energy Solutions, stated that the transaction will enhance the company’s scale and execution capabilities while supporting the technological modernization of India’s power distribution sector. Anil Rawal, Managing Director and CEO of IntelliSmart, described the transaction as a milestone that is expected to encourage further capital flow and accelerate digitalization across the power distribution value chain.
Market analysts have noted that smart metering serves as a vital growth driver for AESL. By the end of FY26, the company had installed 11.4 million smart meters, representing a sharp increase from 3.1 million in the preceding fiscal year. AESL added 8.2 million smart meters during FY26, surpassing its initial target of 7 million installations. The company is currently executing smart metering projects worth Rs 29,500 crore, covering approximately 24.6 million meters.
